SOMA Networks Demonstrates Continued Progress Towards Mobile WiMax™ Certification
Company participates in WiMAX Forum® second public, Mobile WiMAX PlugFest; Tests FlexMAX™ Mobile WiMAX System Interoperability
SAN FRANCISCO — February 13, 2007 — SOMA Networks, Inc., a leading provider of Mobile WiMAX technology, today announced significant progress towards Mobile WiMAX certification following participation in the WiMAX Forum® second public, Mobile WiMAX™ PlugFest. The event takes place in Malaga, Spain from February 11-17, 2007, and tests interoperability between SOMA’s FlexMAX™ Mobile WiMAX System and other IEEE 802.16e-2005-based systems. This event marks the next phase of interoperability testing intended to prepare vendors for Mobile WiMAX certification by the WiMAX Forum, which is scheduled to begin in mid 2007.
“We are very pleased with the progress and results to date from this week’s testing, which builds on our participation at the previous Mobile WiMAX PlugFest,” stated Tom Flak, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at SOMA Networks. “By pre-testing the ability of the FlexMAX System components to operate effectively with numerous companies’ equipment, we can check for any technical interoperability issues in the actual test setting, and demonstrate our continued advancement prior to submission for WIMAX certification.”
"With more than 30 companies participating in this latest Mobile WiMAX Forum PlugFest, there is strong momentum and a clear commitment by the WiMAX ecosystem," said Ron Resnick, president and chairman of the WiMAX Forum. "By the contributions of SOMA Networks and the other PlugFest participants, these WiMAX Forum interoperability events continue to show a significant leap ahead with maturity of mobile WIMAX products. Additionally, the experience gained at these PlugFests is critical to improve quality of interoperability testing and to maintain our accelerated path to WiMAX Forum Certification."
“We are committed to bridging the digital divide in rural areas around the world, ensuring service providers can universally offer broadband access to their customers,” added Flak. “SOMA Networks is rapidly progressing towards delivery of one of the first commercially-ready Mobile WiMAX offerings, to support our vision of enabling our customers to connect the next billion people.”
