BSNL shows cutting edge wireless broadband technology at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit
Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India - 13 January, 2009 - The Global Investors Summit, Vibrant Gujarat, a showcase for Industry, Business and Technology for the state, has been equipped with broadband connectivity and Information Kiosks that provide a sneak preview of BSNL’s soon to be offered broadband wireless service throughout Gujarat. With investments in the billions of dollars each year, it is not a surprise that Gujarat views broadband connectivity as an essential part of infrastructure by extending the reach of broadband connectivity with wireless broadband where wired connectivity does not exist.
To the lay user, wireless broadband is high-speed, always-on Internet connectivity, which will help provide greater access to applications such as banking/micro-finance, tele-medicine, and tele-education a reality, helping bridge the digital divide. And on top of this list, the service will allow access to eGovernance applications and information that will bring more transparency to the way the Government works.
Chief Minister Modi views broadband connectivity as a significant contribution to rural economic transformation and the improvement of the Human Development Index. “By showcasing the latest technologies for businesses and homes, we continue to enhance Gujarat’s attractiveness as the place to do business”, said Mr M Sahu, Principal Secretary, Industries and MD of GIDC.
BSNL's Wireless Broadband service will be made available to business enterprises as well as consumers. Showcasing this offering, BSNL’s technology partner SOMA Networks previewed applications in the area of information, entertainment, gaming and education that could be accessed through touch screen interaction, requiring no learning curve, and without the need for a keyboard. In addition, the BSNL wireless broadband powered information kiosks at the show to provide event information and demonstrate video chatting easily accessible with a touch to the kiosk screen.
