Greg Caltabiano Joins SOMA Networks as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Markets
Industry Veteran Brings Years of International Market Development

San Francisco, December 18, 2001 - SOMA Networks today announced that Greg Caltabiano has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Markets, responsible for all market development and account relationships worldwide. SOMA Networks has developed a "last-mile" telecommunications solution using the latest advances in fixed wireless, distributed computing, and Internet technologies to deliver carrier-grade voice, multi-megabit data, and multimedia services to the residential and small-office market, and is currently conducting field trials with large North American carriers.

A Global Perspective on Telecom
Caltabiano brings 17 years of experience in the telecommunications and data communications industries to his new role at SOMA Networks. Most recently, Caltabiano was Division Vice President of Comverse Network Systems, responsible for one of the three customer-facing divisions. Comverse Network Systems is the world’s leading supplier of Enhanced Services Platforms for fixed and mobile telephone operators throughout the world. The company has grown to more than a billion dollars in sales, with extensive operations in the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. Based in Hong Kong, Caltabiano directly managed sales, account management, project management, technical support, and R&D for the Asia Pacific region, which contained 18 offices and four R&D centers.
A native of Philadelphia, Caltabiano joined Comverse after it acquired Boston Technology, also a supplier of enhanced services platforms for telephone operators. Caltabiano served as Boston Technology’s Vice President for Asia Pacific. Prior to his eight years at Comverse and Boston Technology, Caltabiano spent seven years, including five in Tokyo, with Data Instruments Inc./Honeywell Inc. as General Manager of International Operations. In the early 1980s, Caltabiano also worked as a systems engineer and product manager with Satellite Business Systems, a joint venture between IBM, COMSAT Corporation, and Aetna Life & Casualty to create converged voice and data satellite solutions. Caltabiano received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He also completed post-graduate studies at the Inter-University Center in Tokyo and executive education at INSEAD in France.
